Anti-Ragging Policy

Al Ameen Memorial Minority College maintains zero tolerance against ragging. The policy is based on the “UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009” [hereinafter referred to as the “UGC Regulations”]. The UGC Regulations have been framed in view of the directions issued by the Supreme Court of India to prevent and prohibit ragging in all Indian Educational Institutions.

Ragging constitutes one or more of the following acts:
  1. Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling any student with rudeness;
  2. Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any other student;
  3. Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such a student;
  4. Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any student;
  5. Exploiting the services of a student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students;
  6. Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a student by other students;
  7. Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person;
  8. Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to any other student;
  9. Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any other student.
Anti-Ragging Measures:
  1. All the requirements as per the regulations of the Central and State governments, UGC and court orders including anti-ragging undertaking by students and parents, awareness programmes, etc. are satisfied.
  2. The College strictly adheres to the provisions of the acts of the Central Government and the State Governments, if any, or if enacted and /or for the time being in force, considering ragging as a cognizable offence.
  3. The Principal of the College directly supervises the Anti- ragging Cell.
  4. The Anti-ragging Cell shall ensure strict vigilance on activities of students especially during the arrival of new batches in the beginning of the academic year.
  5. The faculty members will help to identify potential violators and students with stress, tension and other troubles and personally meet them, and if necessary, take the steps to have sessions with professional counselors.
  6. An Induction-cum Fresher’s Social Day is arranged for the newcomers in the beginning of the academic year in order to prepare them for the socio‐academic life in the campus.
  7. The College identifies all vulnerable locations, and ensures a constant vigil and watch at such locations.
  8. The institution ensures the participation of all the students during the cultural festivals and celebrations to erase the senior- junior distinctions
  9. The anti- ragging policy of the College ensures the presence of teacher squads which take turns to maintain the customary discipline of the campus.
  10. The College website and the Prospectus that it publishes makes alert the students not to indulge in any kind of ragging, which read as “ Strict disciplinary action shall be taken following the orders passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and the UGC, against any student who is found to be involved in ragging.
    In case of any sexual harassment / abuse of any student, proper action be taken as per law / as be decided by the Team set up for this.”
Anti-Ragging Committee:

The Anti-Ragging Committee, as constituted by the Principal and headed by a Convenor who examines all complaints of anti-ragging and come out with recommendations based on the nature of the incident.

A student found guilty by the committee will attract one or more of the following punishments, as imposed by the Anti-Ragging Committee:

  1. Suspension from attending classes and academic privilege
  2. Debarring from appearing in any test / examination or other evaluation process.
  3. Withholding results.
  4. Cancellation of admission.
  5. Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period.
  6. In cases where the persons committing or abetting the act of ragging are not identified, the College shall resort to collective punishment.
  7. If need be, in view of the intensity of the act of ragging committed, a First Information Report (FIR) shall be filed by the College with the local police authorities.
  8. The Anti-Ragging Committee of the College shall take appropriate decisions, including imposition of punishment, depending on the facts and circumstances of each incident of ragging and nature and gravity of the incident of ragging.

The college is committed to uphold the UGC Regulations on “Curbing the menace of Ragging in Higher educational Institutions 2009”.The college has established anti- ragging cell which governs the prevention of any means of ragging either within or outside the college. Ragging in all its forms is totally banned in this college. The college takes exclusive initiative to spread Anti- Ragging awareness amongst its students. The college prominently displays posters detailing laws and punishment against ragging in the campus. The college maintains scrupulous watch on complaints if lodged by students in any form.There have been no reported incidents of ragging at Budge Budge College till date of the establishment of the cell.

It is the duty of this Committee to ensure compliance with the provisions of the rules and regulations laid by the UGC against ragging. All the students admitted to the college and their parents can contact the committee members regarding the guidelines and related information.
